                                               L.E.A.D. Talks with RVB

By Sigrid Shun, Human Resources and Administration

“Do not let your ego be bigger than your

goals and what you can do for your
                                                                         company.”

is the advise given by RVB to new leaders. For him, the common pitfall of

leaders is having a big ego and being prideful. While to be an effective
leader, they must be responsible for the people who deliver the results.
Leaders support their people by providing the resources and

opportunities to enable them making things happen.

“Find your purpose; don’t compromise your values; find what you are
good at and work on it everyday — invest.”

is his second encouragement. When weighing on hiring two candidates
with the same qualifications, RVB would emphasize on the attitude or
soft skills like dedication and going the extra mile. For him, it is aligning

our actions with our core values. We should also invest in ourselves: get
updated with current issues, read books, subscribe to free online
applications that provide daily management and personal development
pointers, attend trainings when possible, and learn from role models.

Two people stand out as his heroes. First, is his mother who through
thick and thin supported their family despite being an almost single
parent as his father was an overseas worker for the most part of his

growing years. His mother is his anchor for being resourceful and
resilient. Second, is his boss at SGV where he learned the essence of
industrial engineering, that is, systematically applying common sense.
He also learned the true meaning of success from his boss, “Your success
can be only be measured by the degree by which you were able to make

a difference or improvment in the lives of the people you work with.”
